How do I transfer data from my Dell laptop's hard drive to a new computer?

Okay, today the motherboard "went" in my Dell Inspirion laptop, I took it to the repair shop and the repairman popped out the hard drive and hooked this cable up to it. One end of the cable had a USB port on it, but the other end had the hard drive metal longish connection to connect onto the hard drive. Where do I find one of these same cables to transfer all that data to another computer or external hard drive? What is it called? Thank you.How do I transfer data from my Dell laptop's hard drive to a new computer? It will be easiest with an external hard drive. You can clear everything off of it onto the drive and then move everything onto the new hard drive. You may need the operating system disks if you are setting up from scratch, and a USB port connection cable, otherwise transfer away! How do I transfer data from my Dell laptop's hard drive to a new computer?Buy an 2'5 HD external case. It has USB cable to connect it to your PC, or laptop. Put your old HD to the external case, use its slot, then connet to your new laptop. Your new laptop will recognize this device and you can transfer your data.
