My sister just a new dell with window 7. Can I install her default CD's on my dell? Right know it has windows vista and some problems with the menus. Like I can't pull up my control tab and in the bottom right side of my screen it says that windows in not genuine. Also I can pull up my SD card. Can I install my sisters new computer programs on my 2007 dell?If your older Dell meets the minimum specs for Windows 7 and the other software, then you should be able to install the software without any problems. So long as the Windows 7 disk sees the Dell BIOS on your older system it should install and it will not prompt you for a COA number because it will read the generic COA number from the disk. Can I install my sisters new computer programs on my 2007 dell?if they have similar CPU/hardware configurations yeah, but i dunno, i havent really ever tried to do it and im sure dell figures out a way to make it hard. i would just try doing it, but back up your other computer first, try it out, if it doesnt work, restore it.
you can try buying a cheap secondary harddrive, and then you dont have to back anything up, just install the operating system to the new hard drive, if it works, then you can do it again to the original hard drive.
also dells have a 2nd partition on the hard drive sometimes so that you dont have to use dell cds to do a restore, you can hit something like F11 at boot to try and get into the revovey console. if this is the case, if your sisters CDs dont work you can re-recover that way
