I was just curious as to how hard it would be to replace a graphics card in a Dell laptop. I've been searching and have been coming across posts and blogs stating that laptop graphics cards are impossible to replace because they are soldered on. Is this true? Are Dell Laptop graphics cards soldered on or simply connected using a cable? It is a chip soldered to the motherboard. You'd be better off buying a new laptop as a motherboard is expensive. Are Dell Laptop graphics cards soldered on or simply connected using a cable?Almost all Dell laptops have on-board graphics, which means that the graphics card is embedded into the motherboard. Very few have discrete graphics which are also removable. Many of their laptops that are advertised as "discrete graphics" have the card soldered on. Integrated graphics are always embedded into the motherboard. You can always call Dell tech support and ask if it can be upgraded. Are Dell Laptop graphics cards soldered on or simply connected using a cable?Pretty much true. You really cannot upgrade the video card on a laptop. You'd have to purchase a new laptop.
There are some exceptions to the rule, but these are few in number and even then it's still not recommended.
