Can I attempt to install a Dell restore disk on an OLD Gateway?

This is just an old computer someone threw out and we grabbed it for fun. If I attempt to use one of my new reinstall disks (Dell, OS 7) will this work or is this too large/incompatible? Goal of this system is just to learn and perhaps use as a shop computer. Maybe throw MS Word or Corel on it.Can I attempt to install a Dell restore disk on an OLD Gateway?Dell's system recovery disks won't work on any non-Dell machines. They check the BIOS at startup and if a Dell-specific string isn't found, the install program aborts.
